Watched 17 Aug I try not to impose modern morality on old movies, and usually succeed, but there is a scene at 1hr 4mins so utterly incomprehensible to present-day eyes that it completely derails the whole movie. In it, Stanwyck is raped on her wedding night, and then cheerily teased about the ordeal by her sisters acting here as the audience surrogate. Fitzgerald is having fun as the bad sister complete with monocle!

After their mother dies on the Lusitania and their father is killed in France, they must manage their Fifth Avenue mansion by themselves. Fiona marries Charles Barclay in order to get an inheritance, and he begins a campaign to obtain the mansion to level it for real-estate development; she vows that this will never happen.
